A Historic moment for India

In a historic moment that ended more than three decades of nuclear isolation for India, the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) decided to resume global nuclear trade with New Delhi.
The NSG's decision to grant India a clean waiver from its existing rules, which forbade nuclear trade with a country which has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), came on saturday after intense lobbying by both India and the US

This decision also frees India to sign bilateral civil nuclear cooperation agreements with France and Russia, who were both instrumental in getting the deal through

Some sceptics in the nuclear club(Austria and New zealand for instance) resisted till the last minute , but relented after coming under intense pressure from the US.These countries were proposing termination of all nuclear business if India resumed Testing.

However India's case is a very unique one .We have imposed on ourself a 'voluntary moratorium' after 1998 .Thus a set of India specific conditions were drawn up so that the deal could go through without India signing the NPT.Our impeccable record with respect to 'non proliferation concerns' was also a big factor which helped the deal go through .
Cheers to clean and green Nuclear power.!!!!

certainly a historic moment for the world, not india alone. the nsg nod has brought one sixth of the world under its umbrella.this move has far reaching implications for the world's economy. there are 100s of billion of $s to be made in this market.already L&T,NTPC,reliance energy stocks have shot up by about 4%.the U.S which is reeling under the cloud pre recession with inflation and job cuts, can breath easier as G.E and other power majors will undoubtedly benefit in a big way.

This will have an immediate effect on growth and what is remarkable is the reduced dependency this growth will have on crude.

The political impact of the waiver is extremely significant for indians.it has de facto recognised india as a nuclear weapons state. there will not a ban on technology transfer and no more attempts to bring us under the CTBT/NPT fold. The several decade long nuclear apartheid has finally been struck down.

In the midst of all this, one must notice how irresponsibly the chinese behaved. The world recognized 'mother proliferator' tried to nail us down under the non-proliferation. several scuttle attempts were made and despite assurances from the heighest level, there were report of them subtly trying to disrupt the process.since no logical reason can be given, one cannot but conclude that the Chinese deliberately tried to sabotage the pro india deal only to contain our growth by denying us much needed energy.Australia it seems has not woken up to global realities.Realize!there has been a change in geo political equations! The center of power has shifted further eastwards with Asia all set to host the battle between the tiger and the dragon. There is no chance in hell that a 'recognised nuclear weapon state' will sign the NPT just to procure uranium from them.they are missing out on the billion $ pie.kevin rudd's obsession with china will cost them dear. as for us,let us enjoy the fact that our generation had been fortunate to witness this.
